Vanessa thought that her husband, Richard, was perfect. The two of them met on an airplane. Richard has his own nickname for Vanessa, which is Nellie. They married and moved to the suburbs and tried to lead an everyday life, where Richard works and Vanessa stays at home and makes sure everything’s all set when Richard gets home. She thought that she got so lucky to marry Richard, who is very understanding and generous. However, she was wrong. Seven years later, Richard asked her to leave. Vanessa currently lives with her Aunt Charlotte since Richard already sent him outside, and he will be marrying someone else soon. Richard is already engaged to Emma, his assistance. He had an affair with Emma while still being married to Vanessa. Vanessa never thought that Richard would end up marrying Emma. She was sad at first, but all she wanted was to save Emma from Richard.

The truth was Vanessa wanted to escape Richard ever since he started hurting her during their fights, but she could not leave him. When she saw Emma, Richard’s beautiful assistant, she formed a plan. She will use Emma and the time Richard spends in the office and on business trips with Emma. She succeeded, something Richard fell for Emma, and she was free at last. She could’ve been rejoicing her success, but she realized one thing – she is putting Emma in danger. She wanted to save Emma and to avoid what happened to Maggie from happening again. Maggie was Vanessa’s friend back in college who died when she left her on the pledge night. She was supposed to look after Maggie, but she went to Daniel’s house, a teacher who is her boyfriend that got her pregnant. When she went to Daniel’s house, she discovered that he was married, so she aborted the baby.

After many attempts of making Emma believe her, Emma finally decided to talk to her and listen. Emma realized that Vanessa’s claims were making sense, and she was already having doubts about marrying Richard – but she couldn’t think of a way out of the situation. Emma was angry when she discovered that Vanessa had planned Richard’s affair, but she, later on, decided to cooperate with Richard, although they don’t have a plan yet.
Realizing that Richard won’t stop. Vanessa could save Emma, but Richard will just move on to the next girl. To permanently stop Richard, Vanessa needed to do something. So he met Richard face to face and made him angry until he hurt her, and when he pulled her, Emma and Maureen saw. Having witnesses helped, Richard ended up being confined to a clinic. When Vanessa visited Richard, he asked her for another chance, to start again, but she knew better. Maureen also discussed with her what she thinks will be best for Richard. When Vanessa returned the ring, Maureen took it and wore it. (Maureen is Richard’s older sister, the only family left since their parents died in a car crash.)

The truth: Emma revealed to Vanessa that she also planned the affair with Richard as revenge. Emma is Daniel’s son, who saw Vanessa through the window to talk to Daniel. Emma wanted revenge because she partly blamed Vanessa when her father left them. After everything that happened, Emma knew better – she now knows that Vanessa never intended to ruin her family because she never knew that Daniel was married.

They moved on with their lives. At the end of the story, Vanessa visits Kate, a woman she had seen before, to talk about her marriage with Richard. It turns out that Kate is also Richard’s ex. She has a limp she got when she finally left Richard.
