When the Ship Sinks (Poem #12)

Be careful with what comes after
having something that beautiful;
it won’t hurt inch by inch
because it will hurt all at once
you won’t flinch
but you’d get on your knees
silently screaming
asking yourself
what have you done to deserve it

You’d wonder
how among all the love gone wrong
yours seemed worse
there have been thousands of ships that sunk
you wonder how come
yours seemed to do more than sinking
because it crashed all the way down
and no matter
how long it has been since he left
you never figured out
how the happiness you had
while you were with him
could never compare
to the sadness you are in
everytime you remember how good it was
and how good it could have been.

Just reading and writing my way out of this messy adult life! I have transitioned from having piles of notebooks stacked underneath my bed from writing on the internet and allowing people worldwide to read.

  1. Absolutely beautiful… It reminds me of a period I went through a couple of years ago. I cringe just thinking about the tears I’ve wept during that time. No pain has compared to it ever since. If anything, I never get that hurt again because nothing so far can be compared to that pain… Thx for sharing. xoxo Sarah
