Your Past Lover and I (Poem #30)

You had her a little too early
and I, a little too late

She was the kind that fills up your mind at 3 AM
with words she wished she could’ve said thru her hands
and when with her you thought you were done
you tossed her away
not knowing that with your actions
it’s still you who has to pay

I, on the other side
was the kind who doesn’t like to be on a line
I’ve always wanted you whole
but along the way of finding me
you met her soul
shattered yourself into pieces
reminding me that I could never have you entirely

Now you think you hold the key
you think the choice is on you
but truth is, you lost us both
when you ignored how widely for you
we opened our doors
when you stood up
to make up your mind
was the moment we both slammed our doors shut.

Just reading and writing my way out of this messy adult life! I have transitioned from having piles of notebooks stacked underneath my bed from writing on the internet and allowing people worldwide to read.
