The ‘What If’ She Feared (Poem #37)

“What if he turns out to be a jerk after a few months?”
that was the question she asks herself the most
she has seen how gentle he acts now
a few months passed and he stayed the same
she got a grip of herself and said
“maybe a few months more”

On the months they spent
she started forgetting
everything she warned herself about
so when the month that she feared came
on the day he finally broke her heart
all she ever did was lie on the floor
stare into thin air and made excuses
on how he managed to hurt her

Just reading and writing my way out of this messy adult life! I have transitioned from having piles of notebooks stacked underneath my bed from writing on the internet and allowing people worldwide to read.
