I Want to be Saved (Poem #44)

One day I grabbed a pen
and decided to write for myself
I stated in capslock:
NEVER RUIN YOURSELF FOR A MAN

Months passed after I was sure that I have fallen
I grabbed a marker
and wrote in bold letters:
save yourself

But as I looked at him, I knew I’m screwed
as I looked at us,
I forgot all the writings on the canvas

The moment I begged him not to leave
was the moment I realized that we don’t ruin ourselves for a man
we don’t ruin ourselves when we love
because sometimes,
it’s the lack of love that ruins us
and sometimes being saved
means staying in love.

Just reading and writing my way out of this messy adult life! I have transitioned from having piles of notebooks stacked underneath my bed from writing on the internet and allowing people worldwide to read.
