Jonathan Cleary is running as a mayor, and his competitors are Ben Jackson & Sam Sullivan. A week before their scheduled debate, Ben Jackson’s wife, Lisa Jackson – went missing. The discussion was postponed, and everyone focused on helping the Police find Lisa.
Lisa’s best friend and business partner, Rani, was distraught that she tried figuring out where Lisa had gone. She showed the letters that Lisa received to the Police. For weeks, Lisa has been receiving letters claiming to be sent by Ben’s mistress.
Rani also tried getting help from a psychic named Carson Graham. He asked for a sweater owned by Lisa to help him track her. On the same day, he knew where Lisa was with the help of his ‘gift.’ He told Rani that he saw Lisa in a river, inside her car & she was already dead. The Police checked the river, and they were able to confirm that what Carson saw was true.
The Police, led by chief Cade, arrested Ben Jackson since they found a pair of shoes matching the river’s footprints.
Their second arrest was by Dr. Sims. He is Lisa’s fertility doctor. Ben & Lisa tried to have a baby for years but were having problems, so they relied on Dr. Sims to help them. However, Lisa decided to have a second opinion and was informed that her pain is minor and she does not have to undergo everything Dr. Sims put her through. Dr. Sims was lying about her condition to get more money from her. The Police found out about this, and they also found out from Dr. Sims’ previous housekeeper that she was looking for Dr. Sims on the day Lisa died. She went to the doctor’s house and was very angry at him. When the housekeeper found out that Lisa had died, she decided to stop working for Dr. Sims.
The investigation is still ongoing, even if there was already an arrest made. The case’s progress is no secret to the media, no matter how Cade insists on keeping things from them. Cade sees Blair, who owns Cape Refuge Journal. Even though Cade and Blair are dating, Cade does not disclose to her everything. Blair still has to work hard to acquire content for the news she’s going to write, but another reporter is always stepping ahead of her. The reporter’s name is Vince Barr, and ever since the Lisa Jackson murder – he is already all over the television. He knows any recent developments the Police have made and makes sure he is the first to tell everyone through television.
During the elections, Cade went to the Hanover House and talked to Sheila. She casually mentioned that she saw Carson near the river where Lisa was found, and he was with a blonde woman. Cade assumed that the woman was Melanie, and they could be having an affair.
Cade immediately went to Carson’s house to interrogate them, but they found him dead. A gunshot to the head. Even after the arrests, it looks like the case is not solved.
While further investigating, Cade saw Vince Barr in the news again, talking about the Lisa Jackson murder. Vince mentioned the telephone cord being used to kill Lisa before being dumped into the river in the interview. Cade was sure that the telephone cord had not been disclosed. He realized that Vince may not have a source because he orchestrated the murder.
THE TRUTH:
Cade was correct. It was Vince Barr who killed Lisa all for the sake of his career. It looked like he killed Lisa in her own home and framed Ben. When Vince pushed the car in the river, Carson Graham witnessed it because he was with Melanie that night. Carson made a deal with Vince. He paid Carson $30,000. On the night in the Hanover house where Sheila mentioned seeing Carson, he immediately left to kill Carson because he feared Carson may tell the Police the truth.
Vince resisted arrest at first but still ended up being caught.
As for the letters that Lisa received, it was revealed that it wasn’t really from a mistress – it was just from Sam Sullivan because he wanted to mess with Ben. He thinks a controversy involving Ben will help in the elections. This is what the Police believe in, having given Vince Barr the idea for his crime. Sam Sullivan confessed to this, and Blair found out about it – so she published it in her paper.
Jonathan lost the election, and it was Sam who won. However, Sam resigned because he could not work well with the backlash he received regarding his emails. Jonathan was, later on, declared the new mayor.
Jonathan and Morgan (his wife) used to have the same doctor as Lisa. They found out that he tricked her too to get more money from them. In a second opinion, Morgan was informed of his correct diagnosis and will now have a higher chance of carrying a child.
Dr. Sims has nothing to do with the murder, but he is facing lawsuits for fraud.
