This One is Different (Poem #52)

Love came into your door the first time

got in, roamed around,

broke the window

then left

When you let love enter again

it cracked the walls

damaged the door

then you swore

to never let it in the third time

You fixed the wall

guarded the door

but there was another way to get in

So love was in your system once more

you chased it yourself and screamed,

“I can’t let you stay!”

but you realized that this kind of love

came not to smash the window

to crack the wall

or to break the door

It came to burst into flames

it came to burn you down

with every touch that turns into fire

you wake up every morning

afraid you might discover

that everything has turned into ashes

But then unlike those previous love affairs

it didn’t leave after the damage

the fire it brought

had the tendency of burning everything down

but he also has the tendency of watching the flames with you

the tendency of sticking around

There is no need to chase it away

because finally, this love is here to stay
