My Guilt (Poem #101)

You made your choice
so I made mine
I heard your voice
before I made up my mind

So if one night
I weep myself to sleep
and there’s no one around
to wipe my tears
I’d settle with this comforting lie:
That it was you who first took aim
it was you who deserve all the blame

On desperate nights
tormented by everything I once felt
I’d be comforted by your guilt

But deep down I know
that in me you found a reason to go
yes it was you who walked away
but it was me who stood watching
and did nothing to make you stay.

Just reading and writing my way out of this messy adult life! I have transitioned from having piles of notebooks stacked underneath my bed from writing on the internet and allowing people worldwide to read.
